When will the snow arrive, and what can you look forward to?
210 km of slopes, 26 km of cross-country trails, snow-covered winter hiking paths and cosy toboggan rides. Winter in Wagrain-Kleinarl in the Salzburg region has a lot to offer. We will tell you when the 2026/2027 ski season starts, how snow-reliable the region is, and why Kleinarl is an especially beautiful base for your winter holiday.
When will the first snow fall in Wagrain-Kleinarl?
The anticipation of winter is growing! As temperatures slowly drop, mountain peaks glow white in the morning and the first snowflakes fall from the sky, a very special time of year begins in Wagrain-Kleinarl.
But when does the snow actually arrive?
At higher altitudes in the Salzburg mountains, it can snow as early as October or November. In the valley, the first snow often appears in November or December. When the landscape actually stays white for good naturally depends on temperatures and the prevailing weather conditions.
For anyone planning a ski holiday in Wagrain-Kleinarl, there is already an important date:
The provisional start of the season in Snow Space Salzburg is November 28, 2026. The continuous 12-peak ski link is scheduled to open on December 5, 2026. Ski operations are planned until April 4, 2027, depending on snow conditions.
Thanks to modern snowmaking systems, many slopes can be prepared even if natural snowfall is still a while away.
Our tip: If you would like to experience winter at its cosiest, December often offers a wonderful mix of Advent atmosphere, snow-covered mountains and the first days on the slopes.
